Shift

Terms of Use & End-User Licence Agreement

Last updated: 12 October 2026

The short version

  • You may use Shift for free for your own cars.
  • Your data stays yours, and we don't share it. See the Privacy Policy.
  • Service intervals are guidance, not a mechanic's advice.
  • We can suspend or remove any account at any time.

1. About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Sambal Digital, Fijnaart, the Netherlands ("we", "us"). They apply to the Shift Android app, the web app at shift.sambal.digital and everything you do in them (together: "Shift"). By signing in to Shift, you accept these terms. If you don't agree, don't use Shift.

2. Your licence

We give you a personal, free, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Shift for keeping track of the maintenance of your own cars, or cars you look after. We can revoke this licence at any time (see section 7). Shift itself, including its software, design and name, remains ours.

You may not:

3. Your account

You sign in with a Google account. Keep that account secure: everything done through your Shift account is your responsibility. Let us know at info@sambal.digital if you think someone else is using it.

4. How to behave

Don't use Shift to upload or share anything that:

We may remove content that breaks these rules, without notice.

5. Your content

Your cars, maintenance records and photos remain yours. You give us permission to store and process them only as needed to run Shift for you.

When you share a car profile on the marketplace, you also give every Shift user permission to see and use it, and us permission to keep it available, without your name, even after your account is deleted.

When you transfer a car to someone else, the car and its full history move to their account and are no longer yours.

6. Service intervals are guidance only

Shift helps you keep track of maintenance, but it is not a mechanic. Service intervals in Shift come from users, the marketplace and generic defaults, and may be wrong or incomplete for your car. Always check your car's owner's manual and ask a qualified mechanic when in doubt. You remain responsible for the maintenance and safety of your car.

7. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your account, or your access to Shift, at any time, for any reason or no reason, with or without notice. This includes, but is not limited to, breaking these terms. When we terminate your account, your data is deleted as described in the Privacy Policy.

You can stop using Shift at any time. To have your account and data deleted, email info@sambal.digital.

8. Availability and changes

Shift is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available". We work hard to keep it running, but we don't guarantee that it is always available, free of errors or that data can never be lost. We may change, pause or stop Shift, or any part of it, at any time.

9. Liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any damage resulting from using Shift or not being able to use it. This includes damage to your car, missed maintenance, or lost data. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for intent or gross negligence.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If we do, we update the date at the top, and for important changes we let you know in the app or by email. If you keep using Shift after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms.

11. Applicable law

These terms are governed by Dutch law. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands. This does not take away any mandatory consumer protection you have under the law of the country where you live.
